What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address. We use it to authenticate you, deliver the weekly digest you subscribed to, and send essential service messages (such as billing notices). We do not sell or share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number and full payment details are transmitted directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by us; we retain only a Stripe customer reference and your subscription status. Stripe's handling of payment data is governed by its own privacy policy.

Telemetry and engagement data

We take a PII-minimization approach to analytics:

• We do not collect or store IP addresses.
• Your browser's user-agent string is reduced to a coarse device category (mobile, tablet, laptop, or other) and the raw string is discarded.
• Campaign (UTM) parameters are limited to a small whitelist and truncated in length before storage.
• Email engagement events (opens, clicks, bounces) store only minimal scalar fields — no raw payloads.

This aggregate engagement and telemetry data is retained so we can operate, secure, and improve the service. If you would like data associated with your account deleted, contact us at the address below and we will honor your request.

Email practices

Every digest email we send identifies The Hawaii Briefing as the sender and includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests take effect promptly and stop all non-essential email. We comply with the CAN-SPAM Act.
